Our Services

The Otium Centre is a locally owned and fully independent organisation that offers a direct personal service to each of its Members.  The Centre is built on one level and therefore all rooms are fully accessible, as is the garden area at the rear.

The service we give to our Members starts with them as individuals and takes into account their strengths, needs, wants and aspirations.  Each Member is a valued and active member of our community.

When you enter The Otium Centre, you arrive in the Main Hall which is the hub of the building and has a small performance stage area as well as an interactive Promethean board which is used for entertainment and learning.  Other areas of the building include a diner-style eating area, an art & craft room, a media room and a life-skills room.  Beyond these you'll find a quiet sensory room which includes a trampoline for rebound therapy and a hydrotherapy room with hot tub.  These latter rooms both have overhead tracking.  We also have another large room which is a great party space - The Nook - in which we have a DJ stand, mini-kitchen and games area.

We can support Members who have complex needs and those using communication aids.  Our staff have enhanced DBS checks and are professional, polite and respectful at all times.  Health and safety is paramount in our Centre and all staff here adhere to company policy and procedures and fully understand their roles and responsibilities in relation to working with vulnerable adults.

Prior to starting with us, new Members attend at least one complimentary assessment day.  This is to help get a feel of the place and to meet everyone.  It helps us identify and talk about specific preferences and needs so that a care package can be especially tailored to each Member.

Some of the facilities and activities you can expect at The Otium Centre are:

Hydrotherapy Room - with Hot Tub, toilet and shower (Tracking Hoist available).

Sensory Room - with Ball Pool and a quiet ambience - includes rebound therapy with trampoline (Tracking Hoist available).

Quiet areas to sit and read, or listen to stories

Arts and crafts: sewing, woodworking, felting, pottery, tie-dying and much more.

Wildlife and nature-watch with our private garden - lots of projects to get involved with...

Gardening projects with veggie-plot; bird boxes and garden management.

Hello everyone, my name is Beau and I am a therapy dog at The Otium Centre.
You might be wondering what breed I am? I am a Cavapoochion! It sounds very posh for a scruffy looking dog?
My coat is hypoallergenic which means I don’t shed hair and so I am okay to be near anyone who has an allergy to dog hair.  I was born in February 2020 and I live with Carol & Ivan. I come to work with them most days and love to be with the Members.  I have a bed in the office so I can have some time to rest.
I have worked really hard on my training and there is a session just for me called “Beaugility” (which is really dog agility).  I hope you enjoy looking at some photos and watching videos of me at the Centre.

Indoor games e.g. table tennis, indoor hockey, board games.

Life skills/independent living room with kitchen area: for meal planning, baking, money management, healthy eating awareness and other life-skills learning included in our educational programme.

Theatre workshop with stage area for those with acting, singing or other stage skills or interests.

We have a fully interactive Promethean board which we use every day for educational documentaries, interactive games, researching information for other learning sessions, plus simple entertainment!

The Nook is a large room which has a DJ stand, mini-kitchen and games area.  We use the Nook for parties, dining, and some of our exercise sessions.
